Hello friends,
Mom had been displaying some symptoms such as being more confused/ trouble finding words and having more problems with controlling her right hand and leg. She went for her scheduled MRI this week, and on Friday her doctor shared the bad news that evidently the tumour is growing again. There is no way to stop the tumour. Mom has gone through the main treatment option (surgery/radiation/chemotherapy), so Dr. Perry advised that there is one other treatment left. It is an intravenous drug that is meant to decrease the speed of the tumour cell growth. She will try it out and test her reaction to the drug and see how the side effects feel. Dr. Perry will monitor her in a month or so to see if/how it is working, and we will take it from there. In the meantime, she is back on some steroids to try to reduce the swelling that is a result of the tumour growth. That means that for the last two days, Mom has had more 'pep' than she has in ages. It takes a bit of time for the bad side effects of the steroids to kick in, so we have really enjoyed this weekend. She has been out for drives (two yesterday...one including picking Christie up at the airport) and went out for dinner at Kath and Dan's. We cherish these moments as we know that very soon the combination of medicines and side effects will present a challenge along with symptoms caused by the tumour's growth.
As a family, we felt somewhat prepared for this news. Mom and Dad have taken it remarkably well. We are focusing on some positive events in the near future. Mom is particularly excited to see the Royal Wedding, and we have tickets for Lion King on Mother's Day.
Thanks for the continued support everyone!

Dear ones,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the news from the past two posts - the marking of the anniversary of the "terrible day" last year and Liz's new health challenges - the honesty and love relayed in both posts reminds me, and I am sure many, many of us, of the strength and courage needed to move through such difficult, heart-gripping moments, and also when to treasure the blessings we have. If Liz is feeling good on the current meds, I hope she is able to get out and about, be with all of you and her grandchildren, and enjoy the spring as much as she possibly can.
With much love,
Sara xoxo
After reading Sara's comment, we feel she has also expressed our thoughts as well. Thinking of you all and wishing you many warm, sunny days ahead.
